The Institute of Private Law

The Institute of Private Law is the one of the leading civil law research organizations in Russia.

The Institute of Private Law is headed by Sergey Stepanov, Doctor of laws, full-time professor of civil law bench of the Ural State Law Academy, Yekaterinburg, Russia.

The researches of the Institute of Private Law are supervised by professor Sergey Alekseev, an outstanding Russian scholar, one of the drafters of the Russian Constitution 1993 and the Russian Civil Code 1994, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of laws.

Many of the staff members and all the experts of the Institute have the degrees of Candidate of sciences or Doctor of sciences in the sphere of Russian civil law[1].

The main goals of the Institute of Private Law are to make researches in the sphere of civil law and international private law, comparative analysis of legal systems and foreign law.

The Institute has published more than 50 books on civil law and issues an annual civil law journal.

The Institute has close ties with legal and educational organizations around the world, including such countries as China, the USA, India, Italy, Holland, Finland, Costa Rica.

For 12 years an Arbitration Tribunal has been acted as a part of the Institute of Private law, possessing reputation of just and impartial arbiter. 

Apart from research activity, the Institute of Private Law provides legal advice and legal expertise for commercial organizations on the most difficult and complicated questions of implementing the Russian legislation. The Institute is a legal advisor of the open joint-stock company Federal Grid Company of Unified Energy System, Moscow, and the open joint-stock company Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, Magnitogorsk.
